It depends on the state law. most of the states require at least two witnesses signing in front of a notary public and your publishing the will (announcing the will). Mostly likely you will not have to pay any federal estate tax, but state estate tax may be due. Sometimes a will is unncessary if the state intestacy law is exactly what you want. You need to talk to a local estate lawyer to find out details.
