BLOWING IN THE WIND

(2006-10-23 10:20:56) 下一個

This morning on my way to work I was listening to CBC radio 2 as usual and between some masterpieces the host told an interesting story which had happened to him during the weekend. He and his sweetheart found a five dollar bill on the ground on which a brief note instructs whoever happened to have this bill to go to a certain website, and they did, out of curiosity I guess. What they found out was that this BL was expected to travel by its own while being tracked at this site. It started its adventure a few days ago from a town about an hour or two drive east of Toronto. They were not sure if it was left on the street on purpose or it escaped from somebody's wallet, either of which was possible. So they spent it and reported the episode on the website. In return they were promised to be advised of its later experience. No news has been received yet by now...

I think it is a brilliant and cool idea as I always love the story of a letter in bottle drifting on the ocean - Something sent by fate and something to expect. I wonder how far this bill can travel, within Toronto? or further to the whole Canada, to the States?  or even further, to the whole world? with people's help, or not?

How far can we travel in our lifetime as human beings, with our intentions and efforts, or just drifting with fate? I like riddles and expectations, even if insignificant ones, hidden in the long life to make it less boring.
Many years ago when I was still in the university, we used to sing a song:

How many roads must a man walk down
Before you call him a man?
How many seas must a white dove sail
Before she sleeps in the sand?
               ...
The answer, my friends, is blowin' in the wind
The answer is blowin' in the wind

I like the background played by guitar which can help your mind being carried away and fly high and far. We sang it casually on the meadow, our eyes sparkling with dreams, hearts beating young and vigorously in old clothes, and gently the long grass embracing our sneakers that are ready for a mysterious journey...

I guess I would not give up the hope. Something will happen some day. Something happens everyday. And I keep going, never stop.

The host said this bill was not possessed by them. It comes and goes, only staying temporarily in their hands. So do a lot of things in life I believe. Friends, family, loved ones, wealth, things, good times, bad times... they come to our lives and leave. I used to weep and be choked by the sentiment of farewells and parting but then I realized that was how things were supposed to be. I learnt to smile at them, live with them fully and then keep them in my heart along the journey that I have to finish by myself.

In a way, everyone is alone in this world, but most of the time we don't have to be lonely. We don't really possess anything. We just have them for a while, so I want to enjoy them in full.

Blowing in the Wind

How many roads must a man walk down
Before you call him a man?
How many seas must a white dove sail
Before she sleeps in the sand?
And how many times must the cannon balls fly
Before they are forever banned?
The answer, my friend, is blowin' in the wind
The answer is blowin' in the wind

How many years can a mountain exist
Before it is washed to the sea?
Yes, and how many years can some people exist
Before they're allowed to be free?
Yes, and how many times can a man turn his head
And pretend that he just doesn't see?
The answer, my friend, is blowin' in the wind
The answer is blowin' in the wind

The answer, my friends, is blowin' in the wind
The answer is blowin' in the wind
