Improved Implants

Women have two choices on the material for a breast implant: one is silicon and the other is saline.

 

Silicon is more jelly like and retains in shape better than saline. It also feels more comfortable. Saline-filled implant stays rigid and can be felt a bit differently from the real breast tissue. But silicon implants leak without any symptoms and the wearer can’t feel it, while saline leak is noticeable and the breast looks deflated. Plus, the silicon implant makers report that silicon burst rate is same as the saline rupture rate at 1 or 2% in the first three years after implant, but it rises to 15% after 12 years.

 

Nevertheless, FDA gave a caution note to users: 20% to 25% of women with breast implant have to get additional surgeries within 4 years due to harden of the implant material, shifting position, sagging or rupture.
