這曲美歌的背景知識：斯卡伯勒集市（Scarborough Fair），譯作 “斯卡布羅集市”，是一首英國傳統民歌。 歌詞裏麵，芫荽、鼠尾草、迷迭香和百裏香(Parsley, Sage, Rosemary and Thyme)---是基督教之前，信仰類似薩滿那樣的萬物有靈多神教德魯伊信仰的原始印歐部族，比如維京人、凱爾特人等自然醫學（巫醫）傳統裏常見的草藥與占卜草。也是一種古時女巫迷情藥水的主配料。

香芹，象征“愛情”與“回憶”；有“停止心痛”的含意。
