幾天前看到某網友(謝謝她)在她愽文有段英文是關於Martha Graham 寫給Agnes De Mille 的一封信. 挺感興趣, 去查了些有關這封信背景的英文. 這封信是屬於勵誌型的.
在此, 從Graham的信裏選幾段試作一下中文意譯(不完全是直譯):
Keep the Channel Open

There is a vitality,
a life force,
a quickening
that is translated through you into action,
and because there is only one of you in all time,
this expression is unique.
And If you block it, it will never exist through any other medium and be lost.
The world will not have it. It is not your business to determine
how good it is
nor how valuable it is
nor how it compares with other expressions.
It is your business to keep it yours clearly and directly
to keep the channel open.
You do not even have to believe in yourself or your work.
You have to keep open and aware directly to the urges that motivate YOU.

注: 我的理解是這封信的中心是Martha 告訴她: 她是很有天賦的, 去做自己, 不用在乎別人怎麽看. 保持進取和探索, 去追求理想和夢想. 這封信我想也適合於去鼓勵任何對自己有懷疑對自己不那麽自信的人.
“Keep the channel open” is something like to “explore”, “to follow your dream”, and things like in that nature.
