I grow many grapes vines in the garden, however the fruits almost always disappeared as they ripened. I lost all the motivation to look after them. This year they received no water, no fertiliser, even no prunings until 7 weeks ago. To my surprise, I discovered many bunches of grapes, more than the years when they got proper care.
Do grape vines really thrive when they are neglected? I suddenly remember the absence of black birds. Black birds normally feast on any sweet berries all summer long. In return they sing the most wonderful tune. We had a long cold winter and a record coldest April. The severe weather either wiped them out or made them move elsewhere.
I do wish my arch enemy safe and well. One could always go to supermarket to buy boxes of grapes but one can't buy black birds to sing those beautiful envening songs.
This is my bitter sweet tale of grapes 2021.
