Days
Daughters of time , the hypocritic Days,
Muffled and dumb like barefoot dervishes;
And marching single in endless file,
Bring diadems and fagots in their hands.
To each they offer gifts after his will,
Bread, kingdoms, stars and sky that holds them all.
I, in my pleached garden, watched the pomp,
Forgot my morning wishes, hastily
Took a few herbs and apples, and the Day
Turned and departed silent, I, too late,
Under her solemn fillet saw the scorn.

時間的女兒，偽善的日子，
蒙著頭啞著口像赤腳的修士，
單行前進無始無終，
他們手中既有王冠也有柴禾。
他們按照人們的意願給予禮物，
麵包，王國，星星和包容一切的天宇。
我， 在藤蔓纏繞的花園，看著這壯麗場景，

Porbearance
Hast thou named all the birds without a gun
loved the wood-rose, and left it on its stalk？
At rich men's tables eaten bread and pulse?
Unarmed. Face danger with a heart of trust?
And loved so well a high behavior.
In man or maid. that thou from speech refrained.
Nobility more nobly to repay?
O, be my friend, and teach me to be thine!

你喜歡枝上玫瑰，卻能讓它留在枝頭。

拉爾夫。瓦爾多。愛默生（Ralph Waldo Emerson--1803-1882）
--美國經驗主義哲學家，散文作家和詩人。他的哲學思想和著作對同時代的作家如梭羅，惠特曼，艾米莉。狄金森等產生過較大影響，對20世紀的美國作家如德萊頓，弗羅斯特等人的影響也很明顯。他的詩不事雕琢，但含意深邃，用詞清新，開辟了“自由詩”的先河。
