外出旅行在中轉機場的貴賓廳（VIP Lounge）等候轉機，正好碰上兩位美國總統候選人的首次大選辯論，閑極無聊，戴起 Bose 去噪音耳機聽了部分內容。前總統川普規規矩矩（似乎很難得），仍一幅”憤怒”老漢的模樣，麵對觀眾將細節一一道來，當然攻擊對手也毫不吝嗇。有人說他中了對方的圈套，忙於解釋，部分要歸功於兩位ABC電視主持人，也為辯論後川普決定不再辯論打下注腳，也難怪，誰還願意再”對牛談琴“，誰還有興趣再賽一次而裁判執法不公。
另一方的現任副總統哈裏斯，對著鏡頭款款而談，很多時候的內容似乎是練好的台詞，其連貫性和抑揚頓錯本人太熟悉了。記得有一年參加一個製藥界的國際會議，我的一項“煙酒“被大會選中為大會發言，由於該“煙酒“是本人一手“炮製“，公司隻好趕鴨子上架讓我準備演講。對於我們這些早年來美的老中，英文寫寫還行，上台用英語演講，而且對著上千人的聽眾，那種怯場可想而知，更別說人生第一次，簡直是進入“死地”，但也有出路，那就是置於死地而後生。於是用自己一向的搬倒樹捉烏鴉的老辦法，說白了就是把講稿反複練習直到它變成“小腦記憶”（機械記憶）。中國人說：熟能生巧，當你把一篇講稿背得滾瓜爛熟，練出的發言自然而然地有了連貫性和抑揚頓錯，於是一個令人“生畏”的演講就誕生了，不明就裏的人聽了以後會覺得你好厲害。最後一天全體會議我的發言贏得了聽眾起立鼓掌，不少同事都來祝賀，之後的晚宴上，公司的大老板也挺著大肚子向我伸出他肥肥的右手，“Great Job！” 他對我說，肚皮差點先到。
扯遠了，但聽了這個小故事，你能明白從不開記者會的副總統哈裏斯為什麽能在辯論中慷慨激昂了。就連一開頭走上前去握手都是“練”出來的，一種”強人所難“和”逼人就範”的強勢。比如在辯論中人家對手已講過“不反對墮胎“，隻是對足月人工流產有異議，卻引來哈裏斯連篇累牘不分青紅皂白的一通”講稿”背詠。這並非是說哈裏斯和我遇到的情況一模一樣，隻是可以類比而己。
這次辯論後民主黨覺得他們贏“麻“了，各種民調領先滿天飛，殊不知那種極左的專橫跋扈，my way or high way 之 approach 早已將中間選民弄了個透心涼，如果民主黨換個偏中間的候選人他們肯定棄川普而去，但並非這個中國人稱之“見人說人話見鬼說鬼話”的哈裏斯。看看她過去在加州的所作所為，看看今天舊金山的烏煙瘴氣，以美國人民的智慧，他們能讓哈裏斯入主白宮？民調說哈裏斯贏了，而決定此次大選的中間選民說："Don't give a dime！”
