The Venomous Arizona Coral Snake

The Arizona coral snake is a reptile. This sneaky fellow is cold-blooded and has a backbone  like almost all other reptiles. It has scales which can be spotted easily. The
Arizona coral snake has bands of yellow or white, red and black. The red bands
are much wider than the black and yellow bands. The colors of its back are
brighter than its belly. The head is black but not completely black. Its head
looks a lot like its tail. The adult Arizona coral snake grows up to 13-22
inches and with a girth of a pencil. Its snout is not pointed but curved like
an upside down “U”. This snake coils into a circle and lifts its tail to
confuse the predator for its head. It is better to lose a tail than a head. It
also makes a popping sound to startle its enemies. The Arizona coral snake uses
its venom on its prey and predator.

The Arizona coral snake eats small snakes and lizards. This picky eater is a carnivore. This snake’s favorite foods are blind and black-headed snakes, but it will also eat shovel nosed snakes and whiptail lizard. The snake’s venom works great on the cold blooded animals in its habitat. The snake gives its venom by making
chewing motions with its mouth. Instead of having sharp, long and folded fangs,
this snake has small, short and fixed fangs. The bite causes paralysis and
respiratory failure, the venom spreads through the prey until the prey’s heart
and lungs stop working and the prey will not survive. This slender reptile is a
predator and it is also the prey for birds. American golden eagles eat these
snakes.

This snakeis found in central and southern Arizona, they are also found in New Mexico and western Mexico. They live in the Sonoran desert in Arizona and Mexico. The  Arizona coral snake mostly lives in areas that are very rocky, like mountains.
They are also found in plains and farmlands. They like to live underneath sand
and soil. They like to spend their time hiding in their homes. The Arizona
coral snake is nocturnal since it is cold-blooded and can’t stand the heat. It
stays in its burrow in the day and goes hunting at night.
