這兩個人的政見是如此不同。切尼是伊拉克戰爭的鼓吹者,試圖穩定該國局勢;

Obama and the White House: eight degrees of separation

October 18, 2007
THERE'S an old saying: you can pick your friends but not your relatives.
But how must the Democrat presidential candidate and outspoken critic of the Iraq war, Senator Barack Obama, feel about being related to its chief architect, US Vice-President Dick Cheney?
The news that the two men share a distant ancestor took off in Washington this week after Mr Cheney's wife, Lynne, casually dropped the bombshell in a chatty afternoon interview about her new book, Blue Skies, No Fences.
In an interview on MSNBC on Tuesday, Mrs Cheney was asked how she felt about Democrat frontrunner Hillary Clinton becoming the first woman president.
Mrs Cheney revealed that in the course of researching her husband's family tree, she had discovered a common ancestor with Senator Obama, a man in Maryland eight generations ago.
"I thought I should admit this fact because perhaps it means I am not totally objective about Mrs Clinton," Mrs Cheney joked.
"This is such an amazing American story that one ancestor could be responsible down the family line for lives that have taken such different and varied paths as Dick's and Barack Obama's."
In a tongue-in-cheek response on CNN, Senator Obama's campaign spokesman, Bill Burton, said Vice-President Cheney was "sort of the black sheep of the family".
In fact, Senator Obama also enjoys blood ties to President George Bush.
The Chicago Sun-Times revealed in September that Senator Obama was an 11th cousin of the President, but the news was not picked up in the way this week's revelation has been.
According to the Sun-Times, President Bush and Senator Obama share a 17th-century Massachusetts relative, making them 11th cousins.
The newspaper found that Senator Obama and Vice-President Cheney were ninth cousins once removed via Mareen Duvall, a 17th- century immigrant from France. That is a little more distant than Mrs Cheney's reckoning.
The Sun-Times also uncovered a connection between Senator Obama and former President Harry Truman, noting that Senator Obama's family tree spread across several continents, with relatives in Kenya, England, France, the Netherlands, Germany and America.
■ Former US vice president Al Gore said yesterday he had no plans to join the presidential race even after winning the Nobel peace prize.
"I don't have plans to be a candidate again, so I don't really see it in that context at all," Mr Gore said when asked in an interview with Norway's NRK public television about how the award would affect his political future.

JazzFan2 回複 悄悄話 Actually, Obama's connection doesn't stop here. Believe or not, Obama is also related to President Bush.
