Jim Caviezel, starring: The passion of Christ (Mel Gibson, director).
Having read the book several times and watching as many versions as I could get my hands on, from 1934 with Robert Donat, 1974 with Richard Chamberlain, to 1986 with Gerard Depardieu, this version with Jim Caviezel and a great supporting cast is my absolute favorite interpretation. Love it love it love it! Great life lessons, and how those with the greatest of intentions can fall victim to their own inner demons, how life craps indiscriminately on the good and bad alike, and how sometimes bad things happen to in the end make us better people. With the right people around us and single-minded determination, we can still rise above adversity and achieve not only justice, but the redemption of our souls. It is like watching a Frank Capra film.
This story is about the Triumph of the Human Spirit in the face of GREAT EVIL and MISFORTUNE. I think its about growing up and realizing How The World Really Works and being COURAGEOUS ENOUGH to FIGHT FOR YOUR PLACE IN SOCIETY.
R.I.P to the legendary actor Richard Harris, who also played Professor Dumbledore in the first 2 Harry Potter movies.
God is everywhere, we just need to use the tools (eyes, ears, hands, feet and nose) that He provided us with. Just as amazing is the fact that He loves variety, Lord we thank you for these gifts that You have given us.

(My Favorite Movie) A young man, falsely imprisoned by his jealous "friends," escapes and uses a hidden treasure to exact his revenge. Stars: Jim Caviezel, Guy Pearce, Richard Harris, James Frain, Luis Guzmán and Dagmara Dominczyk. Directed by: Kevin ReynoldsYou clearly can see the love and respect Edmond has for Jacopo. In times of hardship and challenges, Jacopo is there to help him unconditionally. Despite him being irritated with Jacopo at some moments, he still considers him a true friend

"Don't rob me of my hate, it's all I have" Goodness gracious what incredible writing!!This movie is a masterpiece. Every line, every word in those lines, every numbers, every minor little detail has a reason to be there. Like at 1:32:00 when he sees Mercedes again after escaping, and she thanks him, he says
- "You would have to be a mother to truly appreciate the service you've done for my son and me, Monsieur, I should never forget you"
He replies with
-"Please madam, it was nothing. I am sure that within a month, you would not even remember my name",
referring to how she married mondego after a month. There are many such details, I can't believe I haven't noticed it the first timeThis movie taught me two things when I first watched it at age twelve : one, a lack of knowledge about the world will not shield you from its cruelties. I know many people have learned that much earlier in life, but I was homeschooled and read many books where people were written to be nice and protected the weak and innocent, and it blinded me to reality a bit. And two, that you can be a good friend but if the other person isn’t healthy emotionally they can hurt you more than an enemy. I’m still always sad that Mondego turned out to be such a terrible person though because I’m a sucker for the friendship storylines :(

The long out of print Richard Chamberlain version of Dumas's classic. Probably the best version ever filmed.

I always hated Mercedes at the end. She had to act all self-righteous and emo. She lived a life of luxury with a dishonest, fraud of a husband and she has the nerve to criticize Edmond for cleaning out the trash? He can do better, it's Paris after all..
When I see how the Count exacts his revenge on Villefort, Danglars & Cadderouse, I think of that old Klingon proverb "Revenge is a dish best served cold".

I myself prefer the 2002 Count Of Monte Cristo, with James Caviezel.
You must see the version with Jim Caviezel. There is no comparison. Jim captures the innocence of Dantes as a young man and then changes to an adult out for revenge. He is a superb actor. I love this movie. I always liked the Robert Donat version until I saw the one with Jim Caviezel and the other actors in the cast. They were all great. I loved it!!!!
Revenge is good thing to live or die for - which's your choice?
