The Sound Of Music

That line - The hills are alive with the sound of music - Julie Andrews twirled while singing on top of a mountain in the opening scene of "The Sound of Music."

The Sound of Music (1965) was an exceptionally successful film in the mid-1960s - at the movie, "You Are Sixteen, Going On Seventeen," "Climb Ev'ry Mountain," "Do-Re-Mi," and "Edelweiss. ... " All of those songs sounding up, filling up my space, enlightening my moment.

To me, with that movie, she'd forever young - 80-year-old, unbelievable to my eyes when I read today's headline. Her pure voice in singing, can't be matched even up today.

I like seeing movies by English lady, glassy, and gracious. She's nurtured youngsters like Kate Winslet (Titanic), Anne Jacqueline Hathaway (Les Misérables), both got Oscar award.

Julie Andrews

Actress Julie Andrews is celebrating her 80th birthday today! The Sound Of Music star has been in the movie-making industry for 65 years according to Mashable, and has made some wonderful, timeless films that people of all ages continue to enjoy. Perhaps best known as Mary Poppins (Disney released the film in 1964, and the role won Andrews her first Oscar a year later), Andrews has starred in over 40 films throughout her magnificent career.

"Andrews has also breathed brilliance into films like Thoroughly Modern Millie (1967) and Victor Victoria (1982), and made the world want to adopt her as a grandmother in 2001’s The Princess Diaries. Not to mention her storied stage runs in musicals like My Fair Lady, her role as Rodgers and Hammerstein's original Cinderella, and her second (third?) career as an author of children's books," reports Mashable.

Julie Andrews, who became Dame Commander of the British Empire in 2000, is an Oscar and Tony-winning actress and singer who is beloved by millions of people around the globe.

"Practically perfect in every way," Andrews is known for her heavenly voice. Sadly, however, she recently revealed that she can no longer sing as she once did. While she may be able to carry a tune (and she did so in the 2004 film The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement, Andrews is unable to hit high notes due to a botched surgery. In 1997, she had non-cancerous throat nodules removed, and the operation left her with missing vocal chord parts.

"The operation that I had left me without a voice and without a certain piece of my vocal chords. So if you wanted a rendition of 'Old Man River' you might get it, but I'm not singing as much these days," Andrews said during an interview back in February according to The Telegraph.

Julie Andrews has not had any film credits since her 2010 "appearance" in Despicable Me (she was the voice of Gru's mother). She doesn't have anything lined up when it comes to new movies according to IMDb, but fans are very interested to see what she will do next -- because she has some plans already in the works.

According to USA Today, Andrews isn't slowing down despite her milestone birthday.

"I just feel like I've been really lucky. I've always wished I had been able to do more legitimate plays. I have some directing projects I'd like to do, that I still hope to get into the mix somewhere. So I'm still busy — I'm just busy doing different things," she said recently.
