A Day in Spring

(2012-04-08 05:43:03) 下一個

During my spring break, I made three appointments in one day, first with my hairdresser, then with my dental hygienist, followed by a doctor’s appointment. After getting my hair washed, I sat down in the salon chair. While I was trying to strike a casual conversation with my hairdresser, a song came on the radio, and it was no other than Adele’s “Someone like You” – which won the Grammy Award for Best Pop Solo Performance this year. I had listened to this song many times and knew its lyric very well, because it was one of the songs posted on the forum for 聽歌練聽力. I was even able to tell her a couple of words in the lyric that she could not make out. So we just talked about Adele, her songs, and Grammys till she’s done with my hair.

Before long, I was lying in a dental chair to have my teeth cleaned. The radio was on, and this time it was “Hotel in California” by Eagles. I told my dental hygienist that I had listened to this song many times (again at the forum) and it is one of my favorite songs. Suddenly she was excited and started talking about Eagles concerts her parents had taken her to when she was a little girl, and she was getting a bit nostalgic while talking about her hometown in Ohio, her parents, and her beloved Eagles. She just kept talking, and stopped occasionally to let me respond.

In the late afternoon, I walked to my doctor’s office. I saw a few patients waiting there, and one of them seemed to suffer from an allergy, having watery eyes and stuffy nose. I sat next to her, and we began talking about the allergies, pollens, early spring, and warm weather, which I got mostly from 聽新聞練聽at the forum.

What a day! Are these events merely coincidences? Maybe, I said to myself. However, there is no doubt that the MYSJ forum has been woven into my everyday life and wired into my brain. Reading posts on the MYSJ has almost become a second nature to me. I was drawn away from the forum several times but always managed to come back, just as it is said in Hotel California: you can check-out any time you like, but you can never leave! It has been a good year at the forum - a year filled with English learning, fun, friendship, and love; a year full of beautiful songs, music, poems, and prose. Such a lovely small “town” we have here!
