Today I read a post at a forum. A parent revealed his discussion with his son – a deep and thought-provoking discussion. His son, an ABC (America-Born Chinese) discussed with him about the responsibility of his generation of Chinese to excel in the fields dominated by other ethnical groups, and to break the glass-ceiling for Asian Americans.
I have never had such deep discussion with my older son, and don’t know what he thinks. I regret that I have never pushed him, challenged him, and spurred him to excel and to follow his heart, and never talked to him about his dream, his desire, and his life’s goals. Maybe it is too late to start with him now. But I want to start instilling these values into my younger son now, even though he is not as gifted as his older brother. It does not matter if he will become a high achiever or a great leader, and what matters is that one realizes his or her full potential.
