何為大學申請時的legacy status(校友優先)?

優先考慮校友的直係親屬(Legacy )政策是從第一次世界大戰後出現的。很多名校都會在同等條件下優先錄取本校的校友(曾經或現在就讀該校)的直係親屬(Legacy )， 如父母，兄弟姐妹在此校畢業或就學。

很多大學對於Legacy入學的影響不是很大(因為校友捐的錢不多)。但所有的藤校以及一些名牌大學就考慮的比較多些， 校友的直係親屬能占新生的10%至30%。因為其學校的運轉資金來源主要來自校友 (付全美校友捐錢最多的十所大學)。

其主要原因就是錢。因為所有的藤校，絕大多數的名校都為非潤利大學。所以他們的開銷與運作主要就是由Legacy 的捐錢而來。名牌大學的畢業生往往比非名牌大學的畢業生做得好。錢賺得多， 當然也就容易給曾經幫助他們的母校捐錢。



讓我們這樣的來考慮: 一位校友， 從名校畢業後， 每年捐給母校100萬美金。如果他的孩子被其母校拒絕了。他/她還會繼續向母校捐錢嗎? 如果這一家庭的幾代人都捐。不采取這政策。藤校名校的錢又從何而來?

所以看大學好不好，劃算不劃算。看校友的捐款額也能看出些道道來。
