劇情介紹：
賭徒賀義 為愛戒賭
義乃當押店東主賀年的獨生子，受到過度溺愛，為典型二世祖，不務正業，終日流連鴻福賭坊，更試過因不眠不休地賭博而疲勞過度，暈倒街頭。幸被美麗善良的杜 麗瑩所救，義更對瑩大生好感，展開追求。
義得知瑩在慈幼局工作，遂請纓角逐慈幼局總理一職，希望博得佳人一笑，但卻遇上“青梅竹馬”的宿敵曾德勝，勝乃鴻福賭坊少東，因覬覦慈幼局的土地，想得來 改建為賭場，就跟義競爭，義決以賭局來跟勝作一了斷，結果義大勝，奪得總理一位，義以為瑩會為此傾情，豈料瑩因父親杜濟森因賭博而把家財散盡，母親鬱鬱而 終，因而對賭極其厭惡，所以對義不存好感。但義卻是遇強越強，加上喜好追求勝利的感覺，對瑩追求之意不減反增。
義遇上瑩父杜濟森，森多年來仍未戒賭，竟和義一拍即合，義更提供賭本供森賭博，此事被瑩得悉，瑩勃然大怒，加上瑩見勝開設字花，引發出不少家庭問題，瑩遂 發起一連串派傳單、演街頭劇的反賭運動，而縣官尚吉祥就借此機禁賭，目的是向勝等人榨取金錢。而瑩更得知義、森於義家開賭，大義滅親，向縣衙舉報，把義一 家拘禁，義為之氣結。結果義為了可以繼續賭博，想出“防務經費”一詞，巧立名目，令賭坊重開，瑩為此跟義大吵一場，二人不歡而散。義更為了跟瑩慪氣，以賭 發泄，賭足三日三夜，結果不小心滑倒，自賭坊二樓跌下，撞傷頭顱，昏迷不醒..........
