《射雕英雄傳》香港無線拍了兩次，就是大家熟悉的翁美玲版和朱茵版，當年翁以本劇一炮而紅，時而俏皮時而倔強的表情令人又愛又惜，黃日華的演出相對較平 常。朱茵版拍得相當用心，忠於原著，許多細節也處理得不錯，張智霖確有幾分傻樣，朱茵人漂亮，演出有幾分翁美玲的影子，像玩辮子和噘嘴時。演楊康的羅嘉良 真是像極了，他真有點小王爺的富貴樣和壞到骨子裏的氣質，最為大家垢病的則是那兩個演黃藥師和周伯通的了，實在是前人太出色，難望其項背。
南宋末年，局勢紛亂，郭、楊兩家無辜慘遭滅門，其後人各散東西。郭家後人郭靖（張智霖）生長於大漠，為人正直堅毅，自小得江湖七怪傳授武藝。在一次南下江 南的過程中，他不但結識了精靈活潑的黃蓉（朱茵），二人發生一段生死相許的戀情，更前後習得北丐洪七公（劉丹）的降龍十八掌及周伯通（黎耀祥）的九陰真 經，因而武藝大為精進。楊家後人楊康（羅嘉良）為金人完顏洪烈所收養，貴為太子。及後楊康得知自己身世，更查出完顏洪烈（王偉）是殺父仇人，但在利欲驅使 下，竟認賊做父。在機緣巧合下，楊康獲知郭靖身懷“九陰真經”絕學，並知曉蓋世兵書“武穆遺書”的下落，誓言要從郭靖身上取得這兩本絕學，因此聯合西毒歐 陽峰，意欲借刀殺人，令郭靖一步一步走向死亡陷阱中……
