The lobster restaurant is called Trenton Bridge Lobster Pound. Right next to Route 3 before you cross the bridge to enter Mt. Desert Island -where the park is. Do not miss it. This is the best one around that area for lobsters. $11.95 per pound. Live lobstors boiled in seawater. We went there around 2:30pm. Not too crowded. Close on Sundays. Don't go to any other restaurant for lobsters. My friend just went there last weekend. She first missed Trenton Bridge Lobster Pound. She ended up in another restaurant for paying $50 some bucks for one not-fresh-at-all lobster. Just one! I ordered two 2-pounds lobsters at Trenton Bridge Lobster Pound only paid less than $50! Their grilled corns are delicious, too. $1.75 or $1.95 each, cannot remember.
There are several sites you must see: Go get a map of the park first. Any visitor's center has it.
Bass Harbor Lighthouse - all the way at the south tip of route 102A. At the parking lot you go to right side to see near the lighthouse, not very impressive. You MUST go to the left side at the end of the parking lot there is an entrance (no sign), you need to walk down stairs to get on big rocks to see the house from the other side. Much nicer and beautiful. Many people do not know the left side view. Do not miss it. Many people miss it becasue they do not know.
Park loop - there are 2 miles trail (called Ocean Path) near the south tip of the east side. Very nice view. It is one way drive. After you pass Sand Beach, you can see the trail on your left side. You can park your car in parking lot or the right lane of the road. There are many exits from the trail (you cannot see it if you are on the road. Must step on the trail) to go to rocks next to the sea. Most beautiful views can only be seen from the rocks. Not on the road. Better go there near sunset, less people on the trail. Or in the morning till midday - high tide. You will see strong waves hit rocks. Sounds sooooo good!
Park loop west side, you must go to the cadillac mountain (can drive up) to see the sunset. Beautiful. If possible, stay there till dark to see star sky. You can drive down after.
Also, in Bar Harbor (also on route 3 on the island), go all the way to the east side along the water front. The street paralle to the water front is called West Street. Wlak along West Street toward to west, pass "La Bella Vita Risorante" (very nice littel house), there is a street called "Bridge Street:, very small and short one. It connects to another Island "Bar Island". You need to go there before 7PM, i.e. lower tide time. You can walk to the island. But when it is at high tide, water will cover the street and you cannot reach to the island. Very interesting. We walked to the Island before 6:00 pm and walked on trails on the Island and before 7 pm we headed back to Bar Harbor. We drove back there after 10:30Pm. It was totally dark and water had covered the path we walked before. It is kind of scary.
3 days enough. There are many hiking trails you can choose. Some most difficult kind are REALLY difficult. Better not try if you do not have good equipments.
