高爾夫球，攝影，旅遊，講笑話，寫寫心得，這就是我工作、家庭以外的小世界。
尤勤治病期間，頂著異常的痛苦，將他的書稿編輯完，為的是給他的網友們一個交待。他在他的博客裏沒有提過他的書，也很少提起他的病情。在近幾個月來他給我及幾位朋友的電郵裏，他記錄了他對他的作品集的很多想法，也對他的病情、治療過程有很多描述。編書不易，重病下編書就更不易。在他艱難敲打出的字字行行之間，流露出他對生活的追求、攝影的愛好、處事的嚴謹，十分感人。
就像很多朋友所說，他人走了，給我們留下了美麗的作品。他的這些書信也是他的作品的一部分。我不敢獨享，現發在他曾經常來往的網上，和大家一起重溫他最後的心理路程。我相信他不會介意，也相信其他朋友也珍藏著他類似的書函。
稍可告慰的是，通過大家的努力，他在走之前捧過自己的書，聞過自己的書香。

I ordered 60 copies as Christmas gifts for my colleagues. It has become a some sort of tradition at work.
Typically I use the photos taken from previous 12 months. This year the calendar was much more popular for obvious reason and I did not have enough copies to go around. So I made 30 more after new year.
The cost is $29.95/copy plus shipping and handling. Occasionally the vendor gives out discount coupons.
There is no place on the calendar for descriptions. I guess that is the main "complaint".

My condition has taken a turn for the worse. The first 6 chemos were not that effective. The doctor then decided to continue with chemo but using a different drug. I am scheduled to receive a chemo on next Friday 3/27 (my 2nd time using the new drug). Therefore, the weekend of 3/27 is probably not good for me. I am again on a 3 week schedule.
Well, most of my photos have rocks. So they rock! :)

How are you doing in the last two weeks? What is the latest treatment plan? I hope you keep up with the good spirit to fight the battle.
BTW, I did some stat analysis on Joe Cornish's pictures in his book "Light and the Art of Landscape Photography." Here is what I found out:
80% of the pictures have rocks
77% of the pictures have sky
59% of the pictures have water
Interesting? Too bad, I can't find too many rocks around where I live.

Either April 3 or April 10 is fine with me. A photographer friend of mine from DC area is coming to see me the weekend of April 10. But that is fine. You can meet him too. His name is Ray Wei. You can check him out on the web. I have never met him before in person.
I can drive to the hospital for the treatment. This time the side effect is not as bad. Not much pain, just stomach upset, nausea and little vomiting for 2-3 days. Actually I prefer you come after my chemo.
I have finished editing all my photos. There are too many of them. I am trying to limit the number of photos to fewer than 130.

If you think I can help, I don't mind going there this Thursday night and take you to the hospital/clinic for your chemo on Friday and bring you back. I can stay in the hospital with you the whole time. Would that be helpful to you?
I noticed that you posted a few writings recently. Every one of them reads and looks great. Last week I saw your activity index went up to Number 1. How come it dropped this week? The index seems to fluctuate.

你好！謝謝你和大家的關心。前些天染上了肺炎，住了兩天院，炎症有點反複，後來得到了控製，隻是每天下午還有點低燒。上周五又做了次化療，換了一種藥，但副作用比較大，以前想盡量避免這個藥。這兩天比較辛苦些，很希望能有些效果
醫院正在對我的癌細胞做靶向治療藥物的效果測試，如果試驗有效果的話下一步就是吃一種叫Tarceva的靶向治療新藥。據說國內病人使用這種藥的效果還不錯，副作用也算還好。但我的醫生估計這藥對我的病例不是很有效。但不管如何，我們決定試試。
過幾天我回公司的時候我就會正式提出請長期病假，繼續正常上班變得越來越難。
關於我的影集的事，多謝大家費心。那就由暨大出版吧。請代我謝謝胡軍。對於影集我最大的要求就是設計和印刷的質量。假如需要我出些費用也無妨。我的作品一直追求精致和細膩，所以希望能在影集的設計和印刷上體現出來，不然也對不起我的那些粉絲。(還有不少呢。) ：）
上個星期湘濱從休斯敦來看我，也談到影集的事。他也很支持，影集出版後在美國的發行就請他幫忙了。照片基本上都整理，選好了（還得謝謝湘濱幫我大刀闊斧刪片，我自己還有點舍不得。) 還有些文字，我得抓緊時間整理，好了我就寄光盤給你。
這兩天又收到兩個雜誌社的約稿，我不想再寫，就將書的某些章節直接給他們就好了。

老賈，你好！
今天終於將書稿寄出來了，下周二應該可以收到。寄了兩個一樣的光盤，預防其中一個受損。
這幾個月來一直拖著，每天想著，但就是這樣拖著。
對我來說，這本畫冊多少是個精神上的寄托，不大情願將它做完。但是前幾天躺在醫院的病床上，想了許多，出院後的第一件事就是將書稿收尾，已經再拖不起了。
還是那句話，質量第一，速度第二。我要能看到，捧在手裏最好，但不是最大的要求。
說實話，這次住院五天對我心理打擊很大。我現在呼吸比較困難，癌細胞產生大量的粘液，直接湧上氣管，每天咳出幾百毫升，也無法躺下好好睡覺。身體許可的話，這個周五繼續化療，已經推遲了一個星期，因為住院的緣故。

I was hospitalized again for three days and discharged last night.
Today we started a new regiment of chemo. I just got home now. For the last 7 months the tumors in my lungs have been treated as lung cancers, but chemo therapies were not effective at all. The initial diagnosis was that the origin was likely from the upper GI. Now my oncologists think that perhaps we should treat my case as GI cancer instead. That's why we started a new treatment today.
Hope it will work. As my doctors say, "we got to try something". But they just gave me 3-6 months life expectancy.
Jia Yimin said that they could publish my book as soon as in early June. They are working on it as top priority.

I called your home number yesterday and no one answered. I assume that you may have gone to work or somewhere else; that would be a good sign. I hope the doctor has something to help you ease the pain and cough.
I sent a letter to Bai Yan and Ruan Xiangyuan last week since I can't find their telephone numbers. I gave them your contact info, hoping they will contact you soon.
It's too bad that Rockets went only so far. But it was further than most of us thought we could. I think that series should have taught some lessons to Lakers, which may help them dealing with

哈哈，我倒不以為照片越大越好。我還特意叮囑他不要弄得太大，以排版的美和精致為重。已經夠大了。一頁是8x10英寸。你在屏幕上看到的是兩頁，16x10。
有幾頁空白的地方我會考慮加文字或別的小點的圖片。
我倒是一直在搖擺，是8x10, 還是10x10好些。10x10應該更專業點，但有些浪費空間。

I received the book sample from Yimin. Generally it looks really good. I think they will do a good job printing it. I sent him a few comments since he asked for it. I am copying my comments to you here so that you can give it some thoughts, too:

Almost every picture now has an English subtitle. But not every picture has a Chinese title, I am just too tired to think of appropriate ones anymore. We'll just have to let it go.

I showed the book sample to a few photographer friends in
You added English subtitles to most photos to tell the readers the locations of the photos. That is really great because some of us may want to visit some of the sites in the future and would like to know where they were taken. However, there are still quite many pictures without such subtitles. For example: Pages 20, 32, 34, 36, 55, 68, 70, 94, 98, 104, 106, 110, 112,114, 116, 152, 166, 168, 172, 182, 184, 186, 188, 192, 194. Having an English subtitle for each photo would ensure a consistent style on each page.
On some photos you have Chinese subtitles together with English ones; but not all of them. Again, I am looking for consistency.
I don't know why these pages show the same pictures twice (one small one larger): 118, 120,
You have four pictures of the salt pan. Three of them are very similar (P. 52 and 54). If you want to keep all of them, maybe it's a good idea to add some texts to Page 54 to make them more unique, like the way you did with the racetrack pictures. Similarly, you have 8 pictures from
Do you have a picture of you with your backpack on your back and some mountains or hills as the background? Maybe, even a picture of your backpack alone in the woods would make a good impression of actual "trekking" for this book.

I am going to the hospital shortly for chemo today and a consultation with a radiologist. They are considering a possible radiation therapy to reduce the amount of secretion. Well, we will see. So far nothing has worked to reduce secretion in my lungs including some expensive new drugs that are not covered or only partially covered by insurance.

I just received the prints you had sent over. Thanks!
Look to me they all about 0.5 to 1 stop too dark. Perhaps that is my monitor problem (when I edited them in PS). This concerns me a bit about the book, whether it is going to be too dark also.
Didn't they look too dark to you? That was my immediate reaction to the prints, dark.
Perhaps you can talk to the photo-finisher to you what he thinks.

Yes she has.
Today I went to hospital with the intention of giving up on the chemo but ended up receiving another one. there will be a break next week. Will evaluate what else to do after CT in a couple of weeks. We talked about my wishes, whether to continue with any treatments or concentrating on making my life a bit easier.
