My high school senior shared a long social media message he received from a total stranger inquiring about our local schools. This stranger is not shy in asking what she wants to confirm from a student point of view. This is an Asian tiger mom, with two bright kids, currently enrolled in prestigious schools in the east coast. The family is considering relocating to the backwoods here in our town.
Her questions are about, bullying, Asian student population, academic rigor, school counselor guidance, and more importantly, college whereabouts.
We advises him to be truthful in his answers so that the parents have realistic expectations. Anyway, I do not know what he wrote back. But he shared with us what he received back. Here it is "Thank you for your sincere answers. They give me a strong impression that you enjoyed your high school and you are proud of your home town and you love it. What matters are my kids' motivation, passion and involvement, rather than school district". That is a good impression to give.
The question is where and how she found his social media contact. That will remains a mystery.
