科學家宗教信仰統計

先來看諾貝爾和平獎得主的宗教情況。根據《諾獎得主大全》一書，1901-2000年期間，除去機構獲獎者，共計88人獲諾貝爾和平獎，其中近80%的人有明確的宗教，無宗教者不到6%。這與我的印象比較符合：和平獎得主，大多都有相當強的宗教背景，其宗教傾向是所有得主中最高的。

文學獎得主的情況則是另一個極端。1901-2000年文學獎得主共計97人(不重複計算兩次獲獎者)，其中有明確宗教歸屬者，僅56人，隻占58%，而明確不屬於任何宗教者，有31人，比重高達32%。對比一下，四個科學獎項得主中，高達67%的人有明確宗教，而明確無宗教的人僅不到10%。

這個情況鉤起了我的好奇心，於是又作了點功課，查詢了一些關於美國大學教授宗教狀況的調查資料。下麵這個表，是1969年美國CarnegieCommission對全美六萬名大學教授宗教傾向的調查結果。它表明，教授們的宗教信仰似乎與其專業學科的科學“硬度”成反比---越是比較軟性的人文學科，宗教信仰越弱，反宗教傾向越強。以此觀之，諾貝爾文學獎得主的宗教傾向，弱於其他所有獎項得主，看來並不是偶然的個別現象。
