Agreed. Sometimes moving up is the only way for better survival. Once the company finds a competent director, he or she would quickly get rid of the people who would challenge and threaten the position (and the new director may gain the trust of the uppermanagement, over you, to do so).

In this situation, no body can help you (you will not find anyone who will act in your best interest anywhere in your company or outside), except yourself.

In addition to the ability and opportunity, one needs to have the confidence and power from within. It comes as natual to some people but may never arrive in others.
