　　一九九四年時，這部風格清新的澳洲電影，相當受到好評，特別是那別具風格的服裝設計，更令人耳目一新，更貼切的藉由影像將阿巴合唱團的音樂與澳洲沙漠的風景巧妙的合而為一。
　　故事敘述三名變裝秀的演員，他們精湛的演出、華麗的舞台服裝，為他們贏得喝采……片子一開場，便以「I've Never Been to Me」一曲點破變裝秀的心聲。而他們最愛的「Dancing Queen」則是他們光華表演生涯的寫照。
　　其中年紀最大的白娜戴特，在自己的臉上已經看到再多的粉也掩飾不住的歲月痕跡，深覺歲月不饒人，加上老友的驟逝，深深的憂鬱緊捉著他。有天，他們有一個新的工作機會，待遇不錯，唯一的缺點就是他們必須離開雪梨，大老遠的跑到沙漠的另一端表演。他們沒有辦法負擔龐大的運費，索性開著他們那輛紫色的車屋，橫渡沙漠……
　　旅途是艱辛的，無垠的沙漠，炎炎高陽，沒事時，穿上戲服放著他們最愛的阿巴的歌，一邊想著演出方式，一邊唱唱跳跳自娛……而他們明顯的特別性傾向，有人不以為然，有人視而不見，卻也碰到不少排拒同性戀的人，碰到這種情形時，他們有人覺得非常憤慨，也有寧可息事寧人……倒是白娜戴特在這趟行程裏體悟不少人生的道理……
　　《沙漠妖姬》不是單純的探討同性戀，也不隻是表現音樂和服裝的美，透過同誌變裝秀的演藝生涯對照一般百姓，也透過一般百性對他們的另眼看待，看到他們麵對人生不同的態度，劇中甚至有許多對白都意義深遠。演員、攝影和服裝設計都非常傑出。由於導演本身就是阿巴合唱團的歌迷，他選用不少阿巴的音樂，也因此原聲帶，對喜愛這部電影或阿巴歌迷來說，十分值得珍藏。
