一方水土，一方人

一方水土養一方人, 是一句俗諺，比喻一定的環境造就一定的人才。

 “一方”，指的是某一塊地域；“水土”，包括地理位置、物候環境；“一方人”，則是長期生活在這一地域的人。

不同地域上的人，由於環境不同、生存方式不同、地理氣候不同、思想觀念不同、人文曆史不同、為人處事不同，文化性格特征也不同。

比如說某山村風光優美，通常會說民風淳樸，這就是一方水土養一方人。或者，窮山惡水出刁民。

 

每個地區的水土環境，人文環境都不同，人的性格，生活方式，思想觀念，人文曆史也就隨之而改變，而生活在一起的人，性格也會很相似。所以一塊地方的人都差不多。就像新疆的人個個都是能歌善舞，長睫毛大眼睛的，上海的小姑娘個個都是能說善辯。白種人，黃種人，黑種人也是由於地理環境才會產生的也就是說地域的獨特性.是和全體國民性相對的.

今天要侃的“水土”卻另有一番含義：買房買土，買土買水。

當我們反複強調“location, location, location”的同時，提醒大家買房勿忘買水。 

1. 水源是否充足？ 

In the late 1980s, CA, like much of the US, suffered the effects of a drought.    e. g.  in the summer of 1988,, the neighboring towns of San Ramon and Dublin were affected very differently by the drought.  San Ramon is part of East Bay Municipal Utilities district (EBMUD), WHILE Dublin, right next door, is not.   Most of the time, you would prefer to be living in  EBMUD territory, because the mountain water distributed by the district is of very high quality.  But there is less of it, so it’s rationed during a drought.  Dublin’s water comes from the Sacramento River, which is of low quality, but plentiful.  Thus, San Ramon residents were limited to 400 gallons of great-tasting water per day per household, took short showers and watched their lawns dry up.  Across the street, Dublin residents had s much mediocre water as they wanted, sang in their showers and watered away in their gardens.

2.  水質如何？ Or water pollution

 Many towns and cities in CA, including SF, get drinking water good enough to bottle and sell.  That’s because it comes from mountain river reservoirs.  Other parts of the state are not so lucky.   Southern CA, LA included, must import most of its water, often from as far away as the Colorado River.  The water is not as pre as mountain water, and tastes bad, too. 

So the key to determining water quality is to find out the source for a particular town.  “Where does it come from?”   Often, one part of a county-Santa Clara, for example—will have excellent water piped in from the mountains, while a few miles away the water will be wretched. 

由此可見，水源決定水質。  另外，水質有軟硬之差，有些地方的居民不得不用 water softener. 

有人說， “you are what you eat.”   殊不知，60% of the human body is composed of water。 所以，我說，you are what you drink.
