56. Unconsciously Selfish
"Without a child, you're being selfish without knowing it." Said a friend over lunch a few years ago. He was referring to the self-sacrificing, unconditional parental love toward one's own children, and I totally got that. Still, his words have lingered in my ears all these years and reminded me to examine my thoughts and behavior from time to time: Am I being selfish? After quite some soul searching, my conclusion is that, while I am not purposely being selfish, I often have not been generous enough. In other words, I am indeed guilty of being selfish unconsciously. I'd love to change that!
