急！請教小白兔及各位大師有關H4過期居留，zaixian先叩謝

my kid 12 years old.He came to US 4 years ago with H4 ,and has been out of status since 2004 when I changed the job. I got a new H1b but didn\'t know her H4 needed to be renew. Just found out the stupid mistake I made.
1. can he return China to get a new H4? The I-94 card should be returned and there will be bad record, rihgt?
2. if so, will he be challenged for having been out of status 2 years?
