This is the first English song I've learned. It was the first year of college. A very handsome teacher, from Chicago if I remember it right, introduced us the Carpenters' album at class. He talked us to sing two of them, one is "Yesterday Once More" and another is "Sing". I liked the first one better, probably because of the sadness. I remember one of my roommates said that she always wants to cry when she hear it. I was kind of surprised to hear that because I couldn't understand why. I guess I was just not as sensitive by then. Talk about crying, one of my classmates, a very tall, handsome and cool guy, once said when he was little, he always cries when he sit on the beach hearing the sound of waves from the ocean. I forgot about a lot of things from college, but not this one. Even now, every time when I think of it, a picture will appear in front of me: an empty beach at night, waves keep coming and going, slowly and persistently brushing the sands. A little boy sitting on the beach, alone, looking at the waves and listening to the sound, with tears falling on his face..... This picture somehow is always able to calm me down.
