MOST people think squeegee-wielding window cleaners are a major danger on the roads and should be busted by authorities for their unsafe activities, according to a new poll.
Nearly three in four respondents to a CARSguide.com.au survey believed that car window washers were “a major safety issue” and 71 per cent said it should be made illegal.
The survey also found that window washers were the fourth-most disliked road-users by 12 per cent of respondents. Cyclists were voted the most disliked by 28 per cent of those surveyed.

Drivers were not just concerned about the abundance of window cleaners in the streets.
Illegal drag racing on public roads was witnessed by 68 per cent of respondents and 45 per cent had been encouraged to participate.
More than a third of respondents said they had raced other drivers before lanes merged.
But a slim majority of respondents believed the best penalty for street racing was indefinite licence disqualification.
CARSguide.com.au editor Alan Jones said that the results came as no surprise.
“People feel like there are an increasing number of tragic fatalities on our roads as a result of illegal street racing and I think our survey helps confirm that it is a major issue,” Mr Jones said.
He also said that the risky behaviours of window cleaners had caused an annoyance that drivers did not want.
“Window cleaners take a big risk when they run onto a busy intersection,” Mr Jones said.
“It’s also a distraction that drivers don’t need, so I’m not surprised to see that people want them off the roads.”
A total of 1026 people took part in the survey, which was conducted by CARSguide.com.au and CoreData.
