Why go to college?

I guess every and each of man can answer this question and different people can have different answers with different needs.  Every nation and country has colleges for so long that we know that college education is very very important in one’s life, and to a nation and country.  Every nation and every country has their own way of how to run college and how to teach their kids.
Most of mommies and daddies here are in thirties, forties or maybe fifties and most of us came form Mainland China.  At that time when we were in China as teenagers, many of us went to college to change our fate by learning knowledge as well as getting privileges and reputations.  For instance, I myself went to college so that I would be able to get out of countryside and become a great official in future.  I guess that I am one of many successful college gradates from China who realized their goal. See, No Worry did not only get out of countryside by going to college, but also came to America, a rich, powerful, beautiful and sweet land.
Of course, American college education systems are different from the ones in China, but the needs and importance of college education are very similar to our kids, the second generations of our immigrants if not to other American kids.  To certain degree, it is kind of same to change their fate as well as getting privileges and reputations by going to college, especially top universities.  We as parents know it and I believe that most of our teenager kids know it too.    America is not our motherland or their parents’ motherland.  They’ve got to work hard with extra efforts to get what they want.  For instance, they may need two degrees, better college to compete the same job or promotion with other native born Americans of whites, blacks, even same color but they came to America much earlier than our kids.  This is the reality, nothing to do with discriminations because the later have some other advantages of English, cultures, traditions, or family background and social connections.  To most of our second-generation kids, college education can change their fate just like us when we were in China though it might not be that serious.
It is very understandable why immigrants pay a great attention to college education, not just Chinese immigrants but also Indian, Korean, Hispanic, etc.  It is fatally wrong if any of us as parents who would say that college education is not that important or take it easy.  Our kids have every single reason why they should try their very best to get into top universities.    Top universities are very helpful for kids’ education and career developing.  No doubt about it.  American top universities are real ones, not fake ones.  As parents we should do our very best to encourage and support our kids to go to top universities.
Just like we do anything else.  We’ve got to realize that America is full or opportunities while our kids and we try the very best to get into top universities.  Our kids’ dreams of life and future are not broken just yet if our kids cannot get into to the top universities for whatever reasons.  Top university is only one-way to help our kids in the future though it is very important way.  Top universities are certainly not the future of our kids.  Again like we do anything else, we’ve got to think about cost and effectiveness too.  We’ve got consider many other factors like family financial and kids’ happiness and capapabilities, interests, social life in college when we help our kids to select colleges, Top university is good, but not necessary good to every kid.  And many from ordinary schools are doing pretty well too, like No Worry.
To help our parents and our kids to go to college, I would love to suggest to read some books and magazines or take some select classes in political science, civilization history, economics, psychological, sociologies though we may not be interested in them at all.  I learned about what is politics of “When, Where and How to get What you Want” in my political science class 101 right after I got into college in America.  It helps me since then whenever I try to do something new.
