the Devil wears Prada

Just watched the movie because of Meryl Streep. It's about a Northwestern graduate Andrea who tried to work as an assistant for a chief editor Miranda (by Meryl Streep) of a top fashion magzine. The lady has the tendency to be a sadist and gave Andy a hard time to accomodate her. But Andy eventually got her trust and was chosen over the first assistant to accompany Miranda to Paris. But in order to get ahead, she had to give up a lot of things, friendship and boy friend relationship. Finally she suddenly understood this was not the game she wanted to spend her life in it. While her boss called her, she threw the cell phone into the fountain. It's a moive which seems to show you that you have to try your best to work hard but in the end tell you that there is something more important than work. Say integrity and family. I am a little surprised that I like this movie. The actress for Andy looks like Julia Roberts and has similar character too. She has the same sunshine smile. My hunch is that she is going to be as great as Julia Roberts.

Here is my follow-up discovery of the story. Prada is a top notched brand in fashion industry. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prada   "Among the fashion elite, Prada represents the pinnacle of intellectual, high-concept fashion whereas Gucci or Louis Vuitton are seen as more commercial-oriented organizations." From there, I notice that American Vogue editor Anna Wintour is a fan of Prada. Then, I click the name Anna Wintour.
Anna Wintour (born November 3, 1949, in London) has been the editor-in-chief of American Vogue since 1988. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anna_Wintour From her picture, I guess that she may be the Miranda in real life. Then, I google it and here is what I found from Amazon.com "It's a killer title: The Devil Wears Prada. And it's killer material: author Lauren Weisberger did a stint as assistant to Anna Wintour, the all-powerful editor of Vogue magazine. "

from http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2005/11/09/anna-wintour-undermining-_n_10354.html "Although head Vogue-ette Anna Wintour has previously made light of her ex-assistant Lauren Weisberger’s best-selling roman a clef, we hear the Devil may care after all. Sources say Wintour has been doing everything in her power to ensure the film version of The Devil Wears Prada fizzles—even threatening to blacklist some of the fashion world’s biggest names if they agree to do cameos.

When Wintour got wind that producers had been recruiting major designers for walk-on roles, sources close to the film say she unleashed a flurry of phone calls intimating to the aspiring thespians that they’d be persona non grata in the pages of her high-end glossy if they participated."

Sometimes I think if I work as a detective, I might be a good one.:)
