The Smokin' Licks
The Smokin’ Licks are coming to a town near you soon!
The Smokin' Licks don’t have too many airs and graces, nothing in the way of pretense. No designer haircuts, fashion victims or exaggerated egos. They just play blues rock, they listen to it, love it, immerse in it. The Smokin Licks take pride in their performance. A steady line-up of band members unchanged since formation, allows the band to cultivate musical understanding and tightness. This concept is coupled with the bands other golden rule; that musical performance should be fun and entertaining for band and audience alike!
The band is three piece, drums, bass and guitar. The arrangements are tasteful, simple where required, and interspersed with busy segments for dynamic colour. There is no strict formula to the music or the genre; roots, boogie, psychedelic, funk, rock and other elements are fused into the unique Smokin Licks sound.
John’s drumming morphs between steady rock, subtle swing, anarchic crash riding and catchy signature fills. His backing vocals add vital layers to the sound.
Dean’s bass walks, grinds and thumps through flurries of clever phrases and earth moving rhythms.
Chris’s guitar cuts, sings and cries through a repertoire of melodic solos and riffs. Wah wah and slide add texture. His lead vocals can be rocky, melodic, soulful and moody.
