兩個父親, 兩個兒子

這篇文章, 是今年 St. Patrick' Day  同事和我分享的.  是個廣為流傳的傳奇式故事.  文章很短, 朋友你讀讀. 非常非常好的故事. 我末了會加簡短的翻譯.

His name was Fleming, and he was a poor Scottish farmer. One day, while trying to make a living for his family, he heard a cry for help coming from a nearby bog. He dropped his tools and ran to the bog.

There, mired to his waist in black muck, was a terrified boy, screaming and struggling to free himself. Farmer Fleming saved the lad from what could have been a slow and terrifying death.

The next day, a fancy carriage pulled up to the Scotsman's sparse surroundings An elegantly dressed nobleman stepped out and introduced himself as the father of the boy Farmer Fleming had saved.

"I want to repay you," said the nobleman. "You saved my son's life."

"No, I can't accept payment for what I did," the Scottish farmer replied waving off the offer. At that moment, the farmer's own son came to the door of the family hovel.
"Is that your son?" the nobleman asked.
"Yes," the farmer replied proudly.

"I'll make you a deal. Let me provide him with the level of education my own son will enjoy. If the lad is anything like his father, he'll no doubt grow to be a man we both will be proud of." And that he did.

Farmer Fleming's son attended the very best schools and in time, graduated from St. Mary's Hospital Medical School in London , and went on to become known throughout the world as the noted Sir Alexander Fleming , the discoverer of Penicillin.

Years afterward, the same nobleman's son who was saved from the bog was stricken with pneumonia.

What saved his life this time? Penicillin.

The name of the nobleman? Lord Randolph Churchill. His son's name?
Sir Winston Churchill .

Someone once said: What goes around comes around.

故事說的是, 有一次, 一位農夫救了一位有錢人的兒子. 有錢人很感激, 要給農夫一大筆錢. 農夫說他不能因做了好事而接受這錢. 這時農夫的兒子進來了, 有錢人就說, 那好吧, 讓我負責把你的兒子送去接受高等教育.

於是在有錢人的幫助下農夫的兒子進了最好的一家醫學院學習. 後來他成為舉世聞名的青黴素發明者Alexander Fleming.

有錢人的兒子有一回得了肺炎, 肺炎那個時候可是要命的病.  什麽東西救了他? 青黴素! 這位被青黴素救了的有錢人的兒子, 就是後來頂頂有名的溫斯頓. 邱吉爾!

讀了這文章, 你會感覺到 世間萬物的因果聯係, 你會體會到 “種瓜得瓜, 種豆得豆”, “善有善報” 等等諺語, 真是非常非常深刻的生活真理!

順便說一句, ALEXANDER FLEMING 的功勞, 可不在邱吉爾之下. 青黴素,  標誌著人類曆史的一個旅程碑, 它救了多少人的命啊.  直到青黴素問世, 病毒才真的被 “道” 所製服. 雖然後來魔會高一尺, 但 “道” 也總有辦法升級. 當今醫學界乃至整個人類, 你能想象沒有抗生素的情況嗎?

不過具體到這個故事, 好象那裏也僅僅是一家之言, 並不能完全否定故事真實性. 不管怎麽說, 就當一個很好的銓釋行善的故事來看待吧.

這故事出自一本美國教會編的小冊子。
他的肺炎使用磺胺藥治好的。
