Johns Hopkins University offers a limited number of merit-based scholarships for undergraduate students. These scholarships are highly competitive and generally do not cover the full cost of attendance for most recipients, but there are exceptions for certain programs and fields. Types of Merit Scholarships

Hodson Trust Scholarship: Awarded to about 20 incoming first-year students annually, this scholarship covers approximately two-thirds of annual tuition. It is renewable for four years if the recipient maintains a strong academic record.

Charles R. Westgate Scholarship in Engineering: This is the primary full-tuition merit scholarship at JHU for undergraduates. It is awarded to one incoming freshman engineering student each year and covers full tuition for four years of undergraduate study in engineering. This is the only widely documented "full ride" (full tuition) merit scholarship for undergraduates at JHU, and it is extremely competitive and rare.

Other Merit Scholarships: JHU offers a small number of additional merit scholarships, some of which are tied to specific areas of study or student backgrounds. Most do not cover full tuition, and none (outside of the Westgate Scholarship) are considered "full ride" (covering tuition, room, board, and all fees).
