more graduates than engineering job openings--some years worse/better than others. It's been the case 20 years ago, 10 years ago...It's a cyclical business appreciating long experience because there are so many legacy systems still in use at NASA, DoD, etc.
The industry has been promoting female engineers for at least 25 years, starting in college and all the way to higher management in corporations. Only ~15% AE engineers/scientists are females in the later career.
