PAT stands for Priority Air Transport, a program that provides air travel priority to senior military leadership. The U.S. Transportation Command's Joint Operational Support Airlift (OSA) program manages PAT missions.
How it works
- The OSA program schedules and coordinates high-priority cargo and passenger movements.
- The Army has the majority of aircraft in the OSA fleet, but the Marines and USAF also contribute.
- PAT is a first-come, first-served service, and rank does not guarantee a seat.
What it's used for
- PAT provides long-range airlift for executive travel around the world.
- PAT helicopters regularly transport VIPs in the D.C. area.
Who's involved?
- The U.S. Transportation Command's Joint Operational Support Airlift (OSA) program manages PAT missions.
- The Army's First Jet Detachment can transport leaders more than 5,000 nautical miles non-stop.
