Of course the median net worth is much lower due to uneven distribution.
But mathematical average is $570,000 and that is per adult, not household.
For couples, the average networth should be $1M at early 40s.
So $400K is ok, but not amazing (definitely better than half of the population but still very stretched and limited).
$400K is close to the total cost of attending a top private college with full pay for ONLY ONE child at today's dollars.
