The boyfriend is a continuation of her parents

and (re)created the environment that she is familiar with.

Because it is familiar, she feels secure in it, as all her reflexes match the environment.

So, when we act disrespectfully towards our children, we need to ask: do we want others to behave this way toward our children?

By the way, this is a narcissist-codependent relationship.
