She is the oldest of the three kids, so she's very precocious and frugal. She wants to help us to save, so doesn't want to consider any out of state colleges. Current 12 years old, she wants to be a mechanical engineer. Plan to apply to a free boarding school in Raleigh. Graduates from that high school is guaranteed entry into any UNC system school they apply and free tuition. I think I can sigh in a relief : no needs to worry about college applications if she gets into the boarding school. The school counselor will help them. There's quota for every county in NC. I think it's in her pocket. Our county/school district isn't the best in the state. My daughter is an excellent contender if she applies. She is always the straight A student. I don't want to pay for their colleges. I'm glad she has the same thoughts: we're not going to anywhere but in state. Paying nothing but room and board is the goal. I want her to have her own way of life, starting from high school! And I don't want to be involved in the process. Because I have two sons after her. She can be the first out of the nest. The earliest and proudest!
My daughter is very different from yours
