You did too good of a job.

You attended to his every need even before he needed it.  You never gave him a chance to long for your attention.  He never spent moments to feel what you felt.  It has always been you help him, never he helped you.  It never crossed his mind that mom or dad needs me.

Much of our everyday thoughts are reflexes conditioned in childhood by circumstances that are long gone but the reflexes stayed, controlling our behavior without us realizing.

Have your children help you with chores when they are young so that they develop the reflex of feeling good after helping out mom and dad.
