看了幾個高分的,小白的高分也不少,525, cGPA4

white female,她還比較擔心,隻希望被一個學校錄取就行了

I am in a gap year and planning on applying this upcoming cycle. I’m posting this as I’ve had a hard time deciding which schools to apply to, given I’m a high-stat applicant with sparse research experience. I’m not after an esteemed program (however you measure that). I just want to get into a school and make the most of that education, though I fear being yield protected from lower-stat schools and being underqualified for high-stat, research-y schools.

All the numbers I’ve given for hours are conservatively what I expect to have by the time I apply. I understand that projected hours after application aren’t given nearly as much weight, though I’ll definitely have more after applying as I'll continue these activities. Thank you again, and feel free to tear apart my list.

cGPA and sGPA as calculated by AMCAS or AACOMAS
cGPA 4.00
sGPA 3.95

MCAT score and breakdown
525 (132/130/131/132)

State of residence or country of citizenship (if non-US)
Washington

Ethnicity and/or race
White female

Undergraduate institution or category
University of Washington

Clinical experience (volunteer and non-volunteer)

  • ~1000 as CNA
  • ~120 as hospice volunteer (maybe more not sure)

Research experience and productivity
~150, honorable mention coauthorship on relatively low-impact journal. Mostly tissue sample collection, image analysis, data manipulation and entry, miscelaneous other things. I transferred a couple times as an undergrad and had a hard time finding research opportunities as a result. I’ve been accepted for a VA summer research program that would add ~300 hrs after application.

Shadowing experience and specialties represented

  • 50 hours family medicine
  • 50 hours internal medicine/geriatrics
  • 20 hours hospice and palliative care
  • 10 hours urogynecology

130 hours (I liked shadowing)

Non-clinical volunteering

  • 150 hours Crisis Textline crisis counselor
  • 250 hours at my local food bank (working on a variety of projects and leading one in the summer)

Other extracurricular activities (including athletics, military service, gap year activities, leadership, teaching, etc)

  • Black belt in kenjutsu with 400+ hours of volunteering as an instructor
  • Dojo cho (coordinator) for my not-for-profit dojo – organizing events, communicating with students, building/maintaining website, etc. We're working on the non-profit status but it's a struggle.
  • 350 hours as a lab aide at a commercial pathology lab
  • 700 hours paid employment doing trails maintenance for local parks and rec
  • 500 hours as stall tech (cleaning up after horses - yep)

Relevant honors or awards
I mean Dean’s List but nothing other than that

Anything else not listed you think might be important
Just for me personally I’m not super interested in pursuing research in the future. Of course, this could change but that’s where I am right now.

太保守了,應該加些Top20的學校 -Joe2013- 給 Joe2013 發送悄悄話 (0 bytes) () 01/31/2023 postreply 22:24:16

我也覺得太保守了。應該多top,反過來說,如果10-20個一流的不取,說明有什麽雷,往下走也沒用。 -無言無語無聲- 給 無言無語無聲 發送悄悄話 (0 bytes) () 02/01/2023 postreply 04:16:48
