I found the most expensive item and it's almost invisible is space. The kids come with lots of stuff so your current place may not be enough.

If you breast feed you don't even need any bottles etc.. I prepared for both kids but haven't used them much.

You can always laundry often so clothes just a few pairs, buy bigger size as well. Like just a couple for 3 months, most for 6 and 12 months. Both of my girls are below 50% but I still found buying bigger is easier to change and cheaper.

I changed my older one every 3 hours or less. My 2nd one only gets changed every 5 or 6 hours.. Depending on the baby. If she sleeps and the diaper isn't too wet no need to wake her up and change. Also she start pooping in the potty since month 7.

Monthly cost not too much more of one time thing.. For budget you may even find some used stuff, ask your friends for some hands me downs.
