His main aspiration is his career, by character or upbringing, he puts Rose in a secondary place. This fact contradicts Rose's love-first policy.
莊's salvation is to have eventually realized that love is more than or at least as important as a career and accordingly tries hard to find his way back to Rose. Though without success as Rose is not a believer of undoing the past, this attempt is only 莊's self-salvation, which nevertheless makes him more agreeable at the end. This is what a good person can be like in the real world - 紅塵俗世 .
