It truly depends on each situation. Deep Creek's and 甜酒甜 EU 261 claims all got the compensations back, and just for the several hours delays, not even cancellations.
郵輪取消 almost always have Future Cruise Credit options. Usually if you take full refund, the FCC would only be 25% or less of the cruise fare (before taxes and port charges which no longer exist), but if you do not take refund, the FCC could go as high as 175% or even 200%. Happens a lot when a cruise is canceled.
Like the Egypt Air flight booked with UA miles, ended up having 5 hours later departure time that we had to cancel (within UA free cancellation window) that we had to rebook the replacement but worked out better on timing, though not on pocket book - the airfare went up, and not able to use miles which we have plenty. If Egypt Air decides to cancel that flight, all the responsibility UA has, is refunding the miles and taxes without any redeposit fee even it is within the penalty window. This is not UA flight, therefore UA could not help you with its own flight. But if it is a destination that UA also flies to, you could negotiate to have UA open up award space to accommodate you. Same for AA mileage booking or DL mileage booking. But really the responsibility to you stops at full refund without penalty.
The Egypt Air replacement cash tickets are booked into Full Flexi fares - if there are cancellation it is 100% refundable though you would need to apply on Egypt Air website by filling out an online form, and it would take several months for the refund but the refund does come, based on people's reports on having to go thru the process.
