-Edmonton→ Vancouver→ Beijing, depart Sept 4 12:05 p.m., arrive Sept 5 3:30 p.m., Air Canada
-take the Airport Express train services (every 10 minutes)
Thursday September 6
-Lama temple→ lunch across the street to the Cafe Confucius at the Confucius temple→ walk through the Hutong [general name for small, old streets] alleys to the Drum and Bell Towers
-Dali Courtyard for dinner
Friday September 7
-go early morning to the Temple of Heaven Park to hear local opera singers (less time here)→ lunch at Old Beijing Zhajiang Noodle King (famous noodles)→ walk via Tiannmen Sq to the Forbidden City (lots to see)
-dinner at Quanjude Roast duck restaurant (book ahead of time)
Saturday September 8
-The Great Wall, book through a tour company (pg 118)
Sunday September 9
-take the subway to Summer Palace (could spend the day there or *take side trips to the Fragrant Hills Park- take a chairlift to the Incense Burning Peak to get a view of the countryside or a side trip to the Botanic Gardens (all very close))
-catch a Peking Opera or acrobatic show
-from Beijing West catch a g-class train to Xian (1824-2248H, 4 hours and 24 minutes)
Xian (2 days), hotel: The Fairway Place- Marriott Executive Apartments, No 16 Gaoxin 4th Road Gaoxin District, Xian Shaanxi 710075 [cold noodles]
Monday September 10
-explore the old city walls; at the south gate can hire a English speaking guide (4 hr walking tour)
-using tourist buses, can explore the hot springs, Qin Shi Huang’s tomb and the Terracotta Warriors
Tuesday September 11
-Hua Shan mountain- either climb (2-5 hours) or take a cable car to the top
-take the D-class sleeper (11 hours overnight) to Shanghai
Shanghai (2 days) hotel: Fraser Residence Shanghai, 98 Shou Ning Road, 200021 Shanghai, Shanghai 200021 [try xiaolongbao= bite sized snack pack, hairy crabs, steam buns- has soup inside]
Wednesday September 12
-the Bund, enjoy the sunrise along the riverside, stroll the promenade, or enjoy the skyline including shopping and restaurants
-East Nanjing Rd→ to People’s Sq→ the Shanghai museum→ Huanghe Rd food street for dumplings→ at People’s Sq take the metro→ East Pudong→ walk the Promenade, visit the Shanghai tower or the Shanghai World Financial Tower (visit at night, 3 observation desks)
-French Concession for dinner
Thursday September 13
-Visit Old Town’s Yuyuan Gardens→ then stroll Old St and the alleyways→ Xiantiandi for lunch→ Shikumen Open House Museum→ take a taxi to Tianzifang (an area w/ design studios, wifi cafes, small niche boutiques)
-French Concession for dinner
-at night catch the acrobatics or Shanghai jazz
Hangzhou (1 day), hotel: Courtyard by Marriott Hangzhou Wulin, 28 Hushu South Road, Hangzhou Zhejang 310006 [beggars chicken, stinky tofu]
Friday September 14
Hangzhou [high speed train Shanghai to Hangzhou: 1 hour]
-explore West lake either by foot or bike
Guilin and Yangshuo (1 day), hotel: Li River Secluded Hotel, Building 1, No 5 Shanhu Bei Road, Guilin Guangxi [famous for noodles]
Saturday September 15
-fly from Hangzhou to Guilin, depart 11 a.m., arrive 1:10 p.m., Shandong Airlines
-Li River trip (about 4.5 hours, available w/ English speaking guides, includes a scenic boat trip to Yangshuo, lunch and a bus ride back to Guilin)
Hong Kong (2 days), hotel: Courtyard by Marriot Hong Kong Sha Tin, 1 On PingStreet, Sha Thin 0000 [try dim sum]
Sunday September 16
-fly from Guilin to Hong Kong, depart 11:25 a.m., arrive 12:55 p.m., Cathay Dragon
-take a tram to Victoria peak (good view) and on the way down stop at central Hong Kong for lunch
-take the Star Ferry to Kowloon→ stroll the Tsim Sha Tsui East Promenade harbour area and go to the Hong Kong Museum of History
-in central have dinner at Boss (seafood)
Monday September 17
-go to the Aberdeen promenade for a boat ride, also the area has shopping and seafood
-at night go to the Temple Street Night Market and the Wholesale Fruit Market
Tuesday September 18
Macau
-take a ferry from Hong Kong
-start exploring at Largo do Senada (central square)→ explore the ruins of the Church of St. Paul, the Macau museum
-lunch at Clube Militar de Macau
-wander tiny streets towards the Inner Harbour Port and A-Ma Temple
-take a bus to Coloane Village for sightseeing
-then bus to Taipa for sightseeing and dinner at Antonio
-go to the Grand Lisboa casino and Macau Soul for jazz and wine
Wednesday September 19
-fly home, Hong Kong→ Beijing→ Vancouver→ Edmonton, depart 10:30 a.m., arrive 3:55 p.m., Air China
