內華達山脈（Sierra Nevada）縱貫加州南北。大自然探險先驅約翰·繆爾 (John Muir）在一百多年前寫到 “Here ends my forever memorable first High Sierra excursion. I have crossed the Range of Light, surely the brightest and best of all the Lord has built. And, rejoicing in its glory, I gladly, gratefully, hopefully pray I may see it again.” 那裏有著名的優勝美地國家公園，美國本土四十八州最高峰Mount Whitney，和山脈東側（Eastern Sierra）的獨特風景線。
