If you are traveling to see Washington, DC to see all the attractions it has to offer, consider staying in the suburbs of Maryland near the BWI airport. First your safety and you have access to the MARC train service that drops you off at historic Union Station near the Nations Capital Building in Washington DC and tours are available of the Capital to the general public. The cost of a train ticket is around 7 US dollars each way, connecting to the metro subway system which takes you everywhere in the Nations Capital at a reasonable cost, and at the same time you will reside in a much safer environment during the night time hours. Plus if you rent a car you can travel about 12 miles to the state capital of Annapolis where parking is available and some of the best seafood restaurants in Maryland, very close to US Naval Academy. Another thought is if you want to visit downtown Baltimore to see the inner harbor and other historic sights and/or enjoy what Baltimore has to offer, perhaps catch a baseball game at the New Camden Yards.

Remember, Washington DC is not very safe during night time hours and it was one of the highest homicide rates in the country. My suggestion is to stay in Maryland and use public transportation to Washington and Baltimore, staying close to the airport at BWI, much cheaper and safer.
