Day 1
Arrival and getting settled
Arrive in Cusco and check-in to our partner lodge, located in the charming historic district of San Blas. The lodge is centrally located and only a few minutes walk from the Plaza de Armas, the beautiful and bustling town center. Meet your expedition group at 5:00pm.
Day 2
Sacred Valley
We descend 1500 feet into valley of the sacred Urubamba River. We get a chance to visit the village of Pisac, where we will stop by a traditional market to buy some local souvenirs. We then head to the ruins of Pisac with stunning views over the valley. On the guided walk to the Citadel of Pisac, you will see temples, villages, altars, carvings, tunnels, caves and the famous Intihuatana. After a delicious Peruvian lunch we will have time to learn about the Ollantaytambo archeological site, where we will discover the magnificence of Incan construction. We will check out the Temple of the Sun, see stone water fountains, stairs, and terraces surrounded by the Valley of Patacancha and Willoq, while witnessing the beauty of the local people in their traditional dress. On our way back, we will visit the famous church and archeological site in Chincheros before arriving to Cusco for dinner.

Day 3
Cusco to Suirococha
You will be picked up at your hotel for the 3-hour trip to Mollepata, a small village located at the edge of the cloud forest. From here, we will be able to enjoy our first views of Salkantay, which reaches 20,691 ft! We’ll take a break to enjoy the landscape before continuing on to Challa’cancha, our trek departure point. In Challa’cancha, we will meet our assistant guides and began the 2-hour hike to Soraypampa. We will stop for lunch in Soraypamapa, then continue hiking to Suirococha, where we will camp for the night.

Day 4
Suirococha to Colcapampa
We will have an early breakfast before beginning our hike to the Salkantay Pass. We will take a break at the pass to enjoy the breathtaking views before continuing downhill to our lunch spot, Huayrac Machay. After lunch, we will continue our descent to Colcapampa, our second campsite location.
Meals included: breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Day 5
Colcapampa to Lucmabamba
Today, we will continue descending into the high jungle. During the walk, we will hike along clear, cool streams and rivers, and visit several impressive waterfalls. We will observe the change in environment as our surroundings become increasingly lush. We will pass small coffee and fruit farms before stopping in the small town of Lucmabamba, where we will spend the night in a homestay with a local coffee farming family.

Day 6
Santa Teresa to Aguas Calientes
In the morning, our hosts will teach us about their daily life and demonstrate how to roast and prepare coffee, which we will enjoy with our morning meal. We will learn about the family’s coffee crops and cuy raising, and have a look around the farm. From there, we will start uphill along an original Incan road to the ruins of Llactapata. At the ruins, we will enjoy our first views of Machu Picchu and have our morning snack before continuing downhill to the Aobamba River, where we will stop at our lunch spot. After the break, we will continue for two hours toward Aguas Calientes, where we will check into our hostel for a shower and some rest before a celebratory dinner at a local restaurant.

Day 7
Aguas Calientes to Machu Picchu / Huayna Picchu to Cusco
After an early breakfast, we will depart for Machu Picchu. The bus takes about 20 minutes, with the option of hiking. Our goal is to get to Machu Picchu as early as possible to avoid the crowds and have the best chance to enjoy its beauty, mystery, and magic in peace. We will have a guided tour for about 2½ hours followed by free time to explore the site on your own. There is time to climb Huayna Picchu for views of Machu Picchu from above, or you may choose to visit the Temple of the Moon, which is located behind Huayna Picchu. We will meet in Aguas Calientes in the afternoon to board our train back to Cusco. Estimated arrival time in Cusco: 9:30pm.
