We were in London mid June, family of three (daughter is also 14).  We stayed in chain hotel, Premier Inn (@ Tower Bridge location). It is nice, clean and comfortable.  Only thing is long walk from tube station (have to cross the tower bridge).  Good value for money, restaurant food also good, not expensive.  If you don't like to walk, try other Premier inn closer to Tube station. There are several in central London.
