yes, i was there - a top place out of about 100 countries i have been to. did land crossing thru Venezuela (Peru-Bolivia-Paraguay-Argentina-Uruguay-Brazil.. Colombia-Ecuador-Peru, Chile-Argn a separate trip), but not the Margarita Island. Caracas was said to be dangerous, but ok during the daytime - nothing if you been to Jo'burg..
