Mediterranean coast in France is just so-so

Exactly. My wife and myself don't like it for the same reason (on going construction). we drove from along Mediterranean coast from Arles to Savona (in Italy). To be very honest, beach is really disappointing. Hill, cliff, white mansions are good, but a little bit too crowded and messy. It doesn't look neat. I like north (Loire valley, champagne area--the area produces champagne, same product not from that area must be called as sparkling wine, etc.) of France much better.
